Welcome to the world of lenses, expensive equipment, and editors that make less sense than chemistry!
I know that you think you're crazy. You're not sure whether going all in is the best idea. You feel insane for throwing $1000 at photography equipment. You're feeling frustrated because you're getting a client a month, maybe even less than that! Amd you have no idea how to get your name out there when it seems like there's a new photographer every day. Here's the thing though. You know one thing for certain. You have talent. You have tenacity. You have time. Don;t be afraid of failure before you even try. So, let me give you a few tidbits of advice that have helped me through the startup phase. Cause it is just a phase.
“You know one thing for certain. You have talent. You have tenacity. You have time."
Get a Website You Understand
I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to get your website going. Wix is a great platform with a lot of great tools to help you figure out what you're doing and it gives you a lot of customization so your style is recognizable! It's so important to have all the tools you need at your disposale. And a camera is not the only tool you need. A website is a crucial tool to success. And it needs to be user friendly but also editor friendly. Make sure that you know what you expect from your website and do your research to find the best fit for you.
Your Logo Game Needs to be Strong
A lot of photographers like to use their name as their logo. It's fine and it's classy. But I advise you to have a recognizable symbol in your logo. It helps you to have a solid brand and a logo that just goes on everything! I chose KaleidoscopePhoto because I didn't want the name game going on with my brand. I didn't want to be confused and my name is pretty common. But whatever you decide to have for your brand, make it POP!
Be PATIENT!
This is the hardest part. But you have to put in so much hustle. I went through multiple logo designs. I had a blog, a weebly site, and so many other attempts before this site. It's a lot of work to get your business going and you won't get clients right away. However, be very careful about offering your services for free just to build a portfolio! It can make others feel insecure about hiring someone who's only ever worked pro bonno as it were. So be patient and don't sell yourself short!
